Author Interview- Shilpi Chaklanobis

I am interviewing one of my favourite authors today, Shilpi Chaklanobis. She is the author of "Panorama" , a wonderful collection of short tales.

1. So, Mam, what is writing to you?

Writing is the medium through which I interact with the world. It gives me a platform to create something unique & special and also express my views; be it in the form of stories, articles or blogs. It also feels great when someone enjoys your creation and appreciates your work.

2. Tell us something about your childhood and your background.

I am a Bengali and have spent most of my adult life in Delhi. I was born and brought up in IIT Kanpur and spent all my childhood days there. By profession I am a Digital Marketer and am passionate about reading and writing.
3. What is the inspiration behind these wonderful tales in Panorama?

Life. I always believe in enjoying the small moments of life instead of waiting for any big occasion. There are so many things happening around us which go unnoticed. I have always been fascinated by such moments of life that can be enjoyed to live life to fullest and this is what inspired me to pen down such moments into stories.

4. Do you ever get a Writer's block? If yes, how do you overcome it?

Yes, I do sometimes get writers block. Whenever I am stuck, I step away from whatever I am writing and start doing something else to distract my thoughts like reading a book or article or listen to music.

5. As a young child, what did you want to be?

I am a book lover since my childhood days. When I was a kid, I wanted to work in a library or a publishing house. The idea was to be surrounded by a galore of books.

6. There is a very beautiful Song in one of the stories, will you share more of your nostalgic memories with it?

Sure. This song is very close to my heart. When I was a kid, I used to sit for hours in front of the record player listening to it. It is a lovely song about a little girl and her pet dog Pushipol. Everytime the song ended, I found my cheeks wet with tears feeling the pain and agony of the little girl. Even today, whenever I listen to this song, I go back to my childhood days.

7. What does your family think about your writing?

They are very happy with it and have supported me at every step to come out with this book.

8. Tell us something about yourself that we don't know.

Hmm, apart from reading, I love travelling and visiting new places. I want to travel the world. And yes, one secret about me: I also love reading comics. I have a huge collection of Tintin, Phantom, Mandrake and Amar Chitra Katha, comics which is still growing.

9. Who is your favourite author?

The list of my favourite authors is very long but to name a few Jane Austen, O Henry, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, Rabindranath Tagore and Shivani are my all time favourites.

10. Ten years from now, where do you see yourself?

Written few more books and travelled a few more countries.
